Why do my stitches STILL look wonky?

Hi everyone! I’m sort a newbie and I’m looking for some advice. Why do my stitches STILL look wonky? They aren’t uniform and some don’t even look like an X shape. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

1. Stitch in the same direction /// then \
2. Unwind my thread so it’s not twisted
3. Don’t pull too tight
4. Separate my strands of floss before threading the needle
5. Pull straight though
6. Shorten my thread length

I feel like I’ve tried everything and I never get beautiful, uniform stitches!
